The body of a missing Overland Park man was discovered Sunday evening, March 24th, near Clinton Lake in Douglas County. According to the Douglas County Sheriff’s office, about 5:40 Sunday, a hiker who was walking a trail off Clinton Overlook Park, called 911 dispatchers to report possibly seeing a body in a heavily wooded area. Deputies arrived at the scene but weren’t able to see anything from the trail. However, after the deputies entered the wooded area, they located a deceased person matching the description of 53-year-old David Kempker, of Overland Park.

Deputies had searched for Kempker “extensively” in Clinton State Park this past week. His vehicle was located in the park on March 20th, after he had been reported missing to Overland Park Police. Douglas County Sheriff’s officials say Kansas Search and Rescue provided K-9 teams during the search. The Lawrence Police Department, Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks Game Wardens and U. S. Army Corps of Engineers staff also assisted in the search. The investigation is ongoing and a coroner’s report is pending.
