The Ottawa Chamber of Commerce says they have been hit with a potential scam. A group of people were sending target emails to chamber members saying they have Ottawa chamber member information that could be exchanged at a price. The problem is, the chamber gives out the information free of charge. Chamber President Ryland Miller says this company is not one they work with and anyone approached by email or in person about paying for chamber information is a scammer.

This message is timely in that this evening,March 28th, at 6:30 there is a program at Ottawa Memorial Auditorium called “Combating Fraud”. Organized by Kansas State Bank and in conjunction with other community partners, this free event is open to the public and will feature a panel of speakers from the Kansas Bureau of Investigation, Kansas Insurance Department, and former Attorney General Derek Schmidt who will share their real-life experiences aimed at helping recognize and combat fraud.

The nature of fraud in our lives is all around us and can affect us at any point in time. Being vigilant and aware of these risks will keep our community safer
