In recent years, the city of Ottawa got serious when it comes to people mowing their yard clippings into the street. People that do are getting notices in the mail, warning them and encouraging them not to do it again. Public Works Director, Michael Haeffele, tells us about the hazards involved:
An MS4 Permit, authorizes cities, counties, or other governmental entities to discharge storm- water collected by their storm sewer systems to waters of the United States. Haeffele says if someone continues to blow grass and yard debris into the street after being warned, fines could be issued for the offense.
