The Prairie Paws Animal Shelter already has two shelters, one in Ottawa and one in Manhattan. Now the animal shelter may be expanding again. Shelter Director Vanessa Cowie told the Franklin County Commission that Emporia may be next:
Cowie also told the commission that Prairie Paws could become, in effect, an Animal Control Service for the whole county if the commission would be interested in that. If that is the case, then more money would be needed from the county’s annual contribution. Otherwise, the animal shelter is only asking for $44,000 for the 2025 budget year, the same as the previous year.
