Girl Scout Troop 2244 in Louisburg came up with a great idea on how to earn their Bronze Award. They decided to make buddy benches. The benches, which are often found at schools, are designed to encourage friendship. If someone is lonely, they can sit on the bench, and a friend will come sit by you and ask you to play. The Bronze Award is the third highest award in Girl Scouts. To earn the award, each girl scout has to put at least 20 hours into a project that makes a positive impact on the community. Most of the fifth-graders in Troop 2244 exceeded that many hours while working to plan, fundraise and construct two separate buddy benches. One of the benches is near the playground at Broadmoor Elementary School and the other will be installed at Rockville Elementary later this month. Both benches feature a plaque that reads: “This buddy bench was built by Louisburg Girl Scout Troop 2244 for their Bronze Award with the intention of making new friendships last. Take a seat and a friend will find you. Remember, it only takes one friend to change your entire world, so let’s start on this adventure together”.

Good work ladies!
