Everyone likes a little bacon from time to time. How about a juicy ham. It seems that consumer demand for pork is on the rise and is projected to keep rising throughout 2024. Although the rise is slight, USDA Outlook Chairman, Mark Jekanowski, says there is one determining factor for increased demand– rising hog prices:

He says hog prices will average about 3 1/2% higher this year than last year, with pork production up about 2%. What does that mean for consumers at the grocery store looking for deals on pork products? Expect to pay a little bit more for that bacon that will be sizzling on the griddle this year, as well as ham and other pork meats.
