The Kansas Legislation passed tax relief in the late night hours Friday night, April 5th, but not without some debate and furious action by both sides. Senator Caryn Tyson says that the Senate passed Senate Bill 539 and the House passed their tax package in House Substitute for Senate Bill 300. She says leadership decided not to act on the other chambers proposed tax cuts. Instead, they put together a plan with the Governor.

Conference Committee Report 20-36 will eliminate state income tax on Social Security…exempt $100,000 of the valuation for homeowner, lower the 20 mill for K-12 to 19.5 for all property owners, eliminate the state sales tax on groceries July 1st instead of January 1st, provide income tax cuts for all Kansans and eliminate the local Ad Valorem Tax Reduction Fund and the County and City Revenue Sharing Fund. The senate passed it 24-9, the house passed it unanimously. Governor Kelly has made it known she is not in favor of the plan, but Tyson say if she vetoes it, she will be going against all the House members in her party.
