Just before their recess last week, Senate Democratic Minority Leader, Dinah Sykes, made a motion to pull Governor Laura Kelly’s bipartisan Medicaid Expansion Proposal, Senate Bill 355, out of committee and onto the senate floor. When the Kansas legislature reconvenes April 26, every senator will have the opportunity to vote on Medicaid expansion. Governor Laura Kelly says the motion will provide an opportunity for a vote to bring the Cutting Healthcare Costs for All Kansans Act directly to the floor for a debate and a vote when the legislature returns April 26th.

In a recent poll, over 70% of those polled said they were in favor of Medicaid expansion. Opponents say it will force many with insurance to change to Medicaid and will enable many people that are able to work, to stay home.
