Everyone has heard the warnings about not driving while intoxicated, but, now AAA is saying, don’t drive intexticated. This month is Distracted Driving Awareness Month. Last year there was a 9% increase in distracted driving crashes over the year before. Josh Zuber from AAA says distracted driving can be almost as dangerous as drunk driving and, there seems to be a ”hangover effect” from using your phone while driving:
That even applies after you are stopped at a light, for instance. A survey by AAA found that over half of drivers admitted that they text, email or use social media while they are in their vehicles. That’s more likely in the 17-34 year olds. Besides just putting your phone away, AAA advises things like pulling over if you need to respond to a text or call, putting navigation instructions in before you take off, and also, speaking up if the person you are riding with is using their phone.
