Garnett Zoning Director Eric Mills has some reminders for those who are thinking about starting a project. These projects could include fences, pools, decks, or a number of things. Some require permits before starting. He asks that everyone reach out to him before starting, to determine if you need a permit and/or inspection. For instance, he says that a new pool, or a pool that was previously permitted, but hasn’t been used for a season or two will require a permit. He adds that if your sidewalk needs attention, the city has a sidewalk assistance program. The city will reimburse you at $2.00 a square foot to replace it. Check with him because there are some requirements.

Some major project happening in and around Garnett. The final phase of the Maple Street Project is underway, and K-Dot will be repaving Maple Street from the roundabout to the northern city limits, and also paving 6th Avenue from Maple to U. S. 169. It is very important to drive safely and pay extra attention in work zones, not only for your own safety, but for the safety of all the workers in the work zone.
