The Ottawa Planning Commission was nearing the end of its study session, but at the last moment some fireworks erupted. The commission is tentatively planning to stop calling the end of month meeting “study sessions” and start calling them what they are……….meetings.
Commissioners also discussed the problem of notifying interested parties in a timely basis when public hearings are called and then discussion took a somewhat unexpected turn. Apparently some people are asking for permits and then putting a contractor’s name on it, when the contractor never okayed it and the Community Neighborhood Services Department is checking with the listed contractor to be sure the document is legitimate. Local contractor and commission member Bill Crowley and Commission Chair Cal Lantis had a disagreement:
The debate ended at that point and the meeting adjourned shortly after that. It seems likely the topic will come up at a future meeting.
