Producing large amounts of sustainable aviation fuel will take large amounts of ethanol and huge amounts of biomass to make the ethanol. Many people don’t believe we can grow enough and transport enough biomass to do the job, however, a recent Energy Department study says, yes we can. Department of Energy spokesman Jeff Marootian talks about some of the reports findings:

That would allow for a yearly production of more than 80 billion gallons of sustainable jet fuel.

The East Kansas Agri Energy Plant in Garnett could produce much of the ethanol needed for this type of product. The Department of Energy says a strong bio-economy could boost farmer’s revenue by about 30%.
