In the wake of protests on college campuses across the nation this past week, Kansas Attorney General Chris Kobach is reminding the University of Kansas that Kansas law prohibits the University of Kansas from granting pro-Hamas protesters’ demands. He sent a letter yesterday to KU Chancellor Doug Girod and members of the Kansas Board of Regents.
Protesters at KU are demanding that the University divest financial ties to Israel. However, the Kansas Legislature has already spoken on the topic, and Israel is a prominent trading partner with the state and in the interest of the state’s economic policy, should not boycott trade with Israel.
In his letter, Kobach says the University of Kansas has many hallowed traditions, but siding with bloodthirsty, anti-Semitic terrorists is not one of them. He encouraged KU to enforce all applicable university rules and regulations so that the educational mission of the university is not disrupted, adding that the taxpayers of Kansas expect and deserve the very best from KU.
