May 9th through 18th is National Police Week, and the topic of police deaths is on the minds of everyone. Ottawa Police Chief Adam Weingartner says hundreds of officers are killed in the line of duty each year, but in some ways, that’s only part of the story:
Ottawa has had only one officer die in the line of duty. Captain robert Cowdin died while working a riot in Garnett in 1963.
The Ottawa City Commission approved several proclamations, including Police Week and recognizing May as Mental Health Awareness Month.
