The outbreak of a high path avian flu strain, found in dairy cattle, has put the USDA on high alert to protect the Nation’s milk supply. At a conference last week, Health Services Secretary, Xavier Bacerra, spoke about the ongoing efforts:
The Food and Drug Administration is also providing an additional $8 million to fund ongoing and expanded response, including validation of milk pasteurization criteria, surveillance at different points of the milk production system, increased lab capacity, training on biosecurity measures, partnerships with states on milk safety and universities on research.
