Leadership of Garnett’s veterans organizations say the county’s proposed fix of the computer kiosk system at Anderson County’s Veterans Memorial won’t do, especially when similar kiosk systems are fully functional at veterans memorials across the country. The system, was originally designed with touchscreen interfaces to a database containing photos and information on all the veterans submitted by family members, has never been completely functional. The commission relayed and updated plan to place a QR code at the memorial which could be scanned with viewers cell phones, providing connection to the database which would also be available via links at the county’s website. However, a letter to the editor in the Anderson County Review from local veterans leadership says the new system would detract from its intent.
Garnett’s Celebration of Service will be held today, May 15th, on the Town Square to honor all those from Anderson County who so proudly serve our Nation in all branches of the armed forces. Bring your lawn chairs, kick back, and enjoy
