Mark your calendars and set your clocks for Wednesday morning, May 29th. Officers from the Ottawa Police Department, and athletes from COF who will be competing in the Special Olympics will be running the Kansas Special Olympics Torch through downtown Ottawa. The Torch Run happens every year across the state of Kansas with nearly 2,000 police officers participating and hundreds of special athletes.

The final destination is Maize, where traditionally, the most inspirational athlete of the preceding year carries the torch into the stadium, escorted by the officers and together they light the cauldron to open the state summer games, which will take place Friday, May 31, through Sunday, June 2nd. Everyone is encouraged to line the streets and honk and wave and cheer on the athletes and the runners as they make their way through town.
