Kansas lawmakers will be back in session on June 18th, for what was supposed to be a time to develop a tax plan that would sooth Governor Kelly and lawmakers alike. However, the Special Session may turn into a bid to lure the Kansas City Chiefs to Kansas. Yesterday, a new effort called “Scoop and Score” encouraged Kansans to support a special Star Bond Package that would do just that. Yesterday, June 4th, Kansas Senate President, Ty Masterson and Kansas House Speaker Dan Hawkins sent a letter to Chiefs owner Clark Hunt saying that state lawmakers are prepared to send the Chiefs with an opportunity to jump the state line and build a new stadium in Kansas, out by the Legends in Wyandotte County. 59th District Representative Rebecca Schmoe says she doesn’t think the Special Session is the time to discuss star bonds and new stadiums. A poll on he facebook page indicates that nearly 85 percent% of people don’t believe the state needs another Star Bond, while 12% say, yes…bring the Chiefs to Kansas. The Special Session is slated to begin June 18th.
