The busy weekend for law enforcement continued with the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department. A pursuit on I-35 did not go as planned. Saturday morning, June 22nd, a Franklin County Deputy attempted to initiate a traffic stop on a motorcycle for a traffic violation. However, the motorcycle driver had other ideas and fled from the traffic stop. He eluded deputies in the pursuit and was not apprehended.

Fifty one-year-old Marc McClay, of Princeton reported his New Holland hay bailer caught fire while he was bailing hay. Deputies arriving on scene reported the bailer was fully engulfed. Fire crews arriving soon after were able to extinguish the flames; however, the bailer was completely destroyed and listed as a total loss. The fire also spread to a Case Tractor McClay had been using, and fortunately only suffered minor damage. The loss is estimated to be $7,500.

Finally, late last week, 58-year-old Michael Nerkins, of Oklahoma, reported that someone had stolen his 2007 Chevy Silverado from the 3200 block of Nebraska Road. The vehicle was later found by Osage County Sheriff Deputies being driven by 36-year-old Josh Hoyt, of Ottawa. Charges have been sent to the Franklin County Attorney’s Office for theft of a motor vehicle.
