Miami County lost a faithful servant and adored educator with the passing of Sister Susanne Bauer, an Ursuline Sister of Mount Saint Joseph, passed away at the age of 90 June 5th. Sister Susanne was an Ursuline Sister in Paola.
She attended high school at Ursuline Academy in Paola. The more time she spent with the nuns, the more Sister Susanne wanted to be one of them. She took her vows in 1953 and served in Paola until the merger with the Ursuline Sisters of Mount Saint Joseph in 2008. She served in education for 42 years. Sister Susanne taught at Saint Phillips Neri School in Osawatomie from 1964-67 and Holy Angels School in Garnett from 1998-2001. Sister Susanne was Principal of Sacred Heart School in Ottawa from 1998 to 2001. She was a teacher’s aid at Holy Rosary-Wea School in Bucyrus from 2001-09. Sister Bauer also served with the after-school care program at Holy Rosary-Wea School.
