July 4th celebrations will be going on for the next several days and there is a lot of intrigue behind the holiday. Back on July 4th 1986, President Ronald Reagan made some brief remarks in New York. He recalled the history surrounding July 4th.
There were 56 men who signed the Declaration of Independence. In the war with Britain that followed, five men were captured by the British as traitors and tortured before they died. Twelve more had their homes ransacked and burned. Two lost their sons and one man had two sons captured. Nine of the 56 men fought and died from wounds or hardships of the Revolutionary War.
