A motorcycle crash on 56 Highway yesterday afternoon, July 9th, sent an Ottawa man to the hospital. At 3:11 yesterday afternoon, Douglas County deputies were called to the 1300 block of North 300 Road, or Highway 56, for a report of a motorcycle that had crashed into a pole. Deputies determined that the driver, identified only as a 20-year-old Ottawa man was driving at a high rate of speed and passing vehicles on the shoulder. He lost control and rolled multiple times before striking the pole. Medics transported the man to a Kansas City area hospital with injuries not believed to be life threatening. He was also cited for reckless driving.

Another crash early Tuesday morning, July 9th, on 56 Highway. Authorities were called to a report of an injured woman walking eastbound about four miles east of the Osage county line. Deputies determined the 18-year-old Topeka woman was the driver in a rollover crash that had occurred earlier. They located the vehicle about 200 yards from the highway. Medics transported her to Stormont Vail Hospital in Topeka with non life threatening injuries. The Lawrence Humane Society was able to take the woman’s dog while she was in the hospital.
