Members of the Douglas County Underwater Search and Recovery Team were called to Clinton Lake saturday evening, July 13th, after reports that a man, who apparently did not know how to swim, went into the water to cool off. Friends and witnesses say he began struggling in the water and went under, and was not seen again.
The Search and Recovery Team recovered the body of a 23-year-old man that evening near Bloomington Beach. The area was recommended to be closed to swimmers due to flooding. Ironically, the day before, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office put a post on facebook encouraging people to wear life jackets when on or in the water, regardless of their ability to swim. Lawrence Douglas County Fire Medical and the Kansas Wildlife and Parks responded as well.
