The National Weather Service has issued an Excessive Heat Warning in effect from 1 this afternoon until 7 Thursday evening for Franklin, Anderson, Douglas, Osage, Miami, and Linn Counties in the KOFO listening area. Dangerously hot conditions with a heat index up to 114 or higher are expected across the area. Be sure to drink plenty of fluids and stay in a cool and air-conditioned environment if possible. Take extra precautions when outside. Wear lightweight and loose-fitting clothing. Try to limit strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Please know the signs and symptoms of heat illnesses and take action when you see these symptoms. Heat stroke is an emergency, call 9-1-1. If you have to work outside, take frequent rest breaks in a cool and shaded location. Check up on your elder neighbors and family members, and we can’t emphasize this enough, do not leave children and pets in unattended vehicles, even for a few minutes. Car interiors can reach lethal temperatures in just a few minutes.
