If you are looking forward to the day you get high speed fiber internet, MOKAN has been tackling some projects in rural Miami and Franklin Counties as well as the city of Paola.
MOKAN Dial funded most of the project with a $12 million grant it secured from the Kansas Office of Broadband Development, and the remaining $3.5 million was paid by the provider. Miami County Economic Development Director Janet McRae and Paul Bean, Executive Director of the Franklin County Development Council, assisted with the grant application and provided support to the company during the construction phase. With work wrapping up on the Stanton and Rantoul projects, MOKAN has now begun a similar project in the Wea area near Bucyrus in rural northeast Miami County, as well as preparing to tackle a Wi-Fi project in downtown Paola. Those projects are also being funded in large part by state grants. McRae said Miami County Commissioners also approved a $10,000 match for all three grants.
