Orange barrel season is in full swing in Kansas and around the nation. What season? Orange barrels usually indicate construction zones and as summer progresses, it seems there are more and more construction zones on our roadways. Franklin County Sheriff Jeff Richards asks all motorists to be extra careful in those zones.
In 2023, 9 people died in Kansas work zone crashes and 508 suffered injuries, KDOT figures show. Speed was a contributing factor in about one-third of fatal work zone crashes in the last several years according to the U.S. Department of Transportation. About one-fifth of all deadly work zone crashes involved rear-end collisions. Slow down, pay attention, be careful, save a life.
