Last night, July 31st, strong storms with reported wind speeds as high as 80 mph rolled through northeast Kansas, causing widespread damage and power outages. Topeka, Lawrence, and KC Metro areas had significant damage. Outages reached about 118,000 customers just before midnight and storms were still active. Fortunately the Ottawa area, once again, just missed the biggest, strongest part of the storm and very few power outages were reported. The massive outages have changed a bit since then. Evergy is reporting that they have restored power to nearly 70%t of customers without power across the area. Lawrence, hard hit by the storms, reported traffic lights down, along with trees and power lines. Evergy says there are still nearly 34,000 customers without power and they are working diligently to take care of the issues.
If you have any power outage, in Ottawa, the city is asking that you call 785-229-2710 or 785-229-3750 to report it.
