One of the four homicide suspects in the Franklin County Detention Center was in court Monday, August 19th. Anthony Alvarado was sentenced to 43 months in prison for battery on a corrections officer charge he committed while in jail.
Alvarado has been in jail since June of 2022 when he and his roommate got into a fight at their 11th and Ash residence, that lead to Alvarado stabbing 29-year-old Dalton Presley to death . Initially, Alvarado claimed self defense and, until a month ago, he and his attorneys were establishing a self-defense case. However, that changed at a recent hearing when they withdrew the defense and said they would enter a plea in the incident. Franklin County Attorney Brandon Jones says that at the hearing Monday, he entered a guilty plea to a voluntary manslaughter charge. Originally he had been charged with second degree murder. Jones says he expects the sentence to be 103 months, or 8 1/2 years. That sentence will run consecutively with the 43 months on the battery charge for a total of just over 12 years. The sentencing hearing has been scheduled for October 21st at 3:30 in the afternoon.
