The Paola City Council has an open seat. Kathy Peckman has stepped down from her Paola City Council Ward 3 seat due to health issues. Eligible residents interested in filling the seat are encouraged to submit a letter of interest. Peckman, a retired former Miami County Clerk, was elected in 2021 when voters selected her to fill the Ward 3 seat that was vacated when Leigh House ran for and was elected mayor.
Interested individuals must reside in Ward 3 and submit a letter of interest that includes the person’s full legal name and address, as well as a description of why they are interested in serving on the City Council, any relevant prior experience they have, and why they believe they should be selected to serve on the council. Letters should be returned to Paola City Clerk Stephanie Marler at Paola City Hall by 4:00 the afternoon of September 4th. Council members will vote to appoint a member to the vacant council seat during the September 10th meeting, and the newly appointed council member will be sworn in and will immediately join the council for the remainder of the meeting’s agenda.
