So, you’re feeling like making some yummy omelets for the family breakfast this weekend. You head out to the store to buy the needed supplies…sausage, onions peppers, mushrooms, all the good stuff. Oh, don’t forget the eggs. But wait, what’s this? You stand in front of the eggs, kind of…shell shocked. Why are they so expensive? USDA Analyst Shale Shagam says we’re seeing a big runup in prices for eggs:

This time last year, wholesale egg prices were only about $1.23 a dozen. Shagam says bird flu has cut the number of egg laying hens:

This has sent egg production down and prices up. So, until the flock numbers come back to normal, you’re going to have to pay more for that delicious omelet, whether you make it at home or go out to eat.
