The Ottawa Municipal Airport Fun Day went off without a hitch on Saturday, August 24th. Even with a little rain that delayed the start of things, droves of people attended the event that was designed to show the public what the airport offers. Dozens of kids took advantage of free plane rides throughout the event. Several speakers, including former TWA pilot, Nelson Krueger, from Lawrence. In his career, he had the distinction of flying Pope John Paul II on a U. S. and world tour in 1979 and completing 665 Atlantic Ocean crossings in his career.
Another highlight was a visit from a Life Flight helicopter stationed out of Lawrence, piloted by Ottawan Brandy Nichols, a retired Army helicopter pilot. All this paired with information booths from many organizations, led to a very successful airport fun day at the Ottawa Municipal Airport,
