We have all heard of the American Legion, but, are you familiar with the Garnett American Legion Auxiliary? The American Legion Auxiliary offers many services to community members, veterans and their family members. Some of the work they do includes poppy sales around Memorial Day, soldier boxes for deployed active military, support for honor flights, and girls state, which allows young leaders to learn about how our Federal Government works. They also offer three scholarships for local graduates that are supported through bake sales that are held on Tuesday evening during bingo, which is open to the public at the Garnett VFW. Sound interesting? If you or anyone you know is interested in joining the American Legion Auxiliary, they are always looking for new members. To be eligible you must be a blood relative to a veteran, active duty, or reservist who has served at least one day of active duty and if discharged, has an honorable discharge. They meet the 2nd Monday of the month at 9:30 in the morning at the VFW hall at the South Lake. Check it out!
