One of the effects of modern water use in Kansas is that many rivers, are no longer rivers. That was the sobering message from Rex Buchanan, Director Emeritus of the Kansas Geological Survey, based at the University of Kansas. Buchanan was guest speaker at the annual Eggs and Issue event at Adventhealth Ottawa. Buchanan says watering crops takes a heavy toll:
