Ottawa Police had a serious situation Saturday night, September 21st. Officers were sent to the 500 block of South Locust for a disturbance, and someone threatening a juvenile with a firearm. Officers found a chaotic scene with limited and conflicting information. Over the course of several hours, the Ottawa Police Department Star Team and detectives were able to execute a search warrant. Two adults and seven juveniles were removed from the location, with information indicating two more people were in the home, one armed with a handgun. After several more hours, the Star Team entered the home and took two adults into custody. A firearm, reported stolen in another state, was recovered.
Police Chief Adam Weingartner says, although no arrests have been made, the investigation is ongoing as multiple crimes were committed at the home over the course of the night, including… aggravated assault with a firearm, unlawful possession of a firearm, possession of stolen property, aggravated child endangerment, interference with law enforcement and unlawful hosting minors consuming alcohol. Weingartner assures that all persons who were involved will be held criminally responsible for their actions. He says they are lucky someone was not killed or severely injured and the type of behavior exhibited and allowing the environment for it to happen will not be tolerated.
