Just in time for halloween, a new species of ghost shark has been discovered lurking in the deep, dark waters off the coast of New Zealand. The Australian narrow-nosed spook-fish lives only in New Zealand and Australia’s waters and is part of a group of cartilaginous fish that are closely related to rays. They aren’t going to grab your leg and eat you. No big scary teeth. They have beak like teeth and eat shrimp and mollusks in the deep ocean.

This new ghost shark is also not the only new species that appears ready for halloween season. Just when you thought it was safe to go frog hunting in Australia, a team in the Philippines has discovered a large new species of fanged frog. This might be something to be scared of, as some of these freaks of nature can grow as big as chickens and their fangs are used in male on male combat and to defend themselves against predators. So, remind yourself, if the frog you are catching for a dinner of frog legs has big fangs, no matter how meaty those legs look, you might want to stay away.
