Many people in the county recieved letters recently about a cyber attack perpetrated against the Franklin County computer system. Franklin County officials know who was behind the cyber attack on may 19th that involved the theft of protected health information of individuals who had previously received services from the County Health Department and the County Adult Detention Center, stored on its network.

Working with the FBI, county investigators searched dark web sources and found no indication that any personal information that the county maintains had been released or offered for sale as a result of the incident. The Rhysida Ransomware group has claimed responsibility and says 6.5 tera bytes of information was stolen. Rhysida is notorious for stealing information and is behind other high-profile attacks on government and healthcare institutions around the world. Rhysida is believed to be based out of Russia or some other middle European country. Though investigation in Franklin County is ongoing, the county says they have mailed notifications to individuals whose protected health information and/or personal information was impacted by this incident. However, they did not have contact information on some individuals. If you feel you may have been impacted, call toll free 1-833-918-8989 and give them the case number b131833.
