The Osage County Sheriff’s Office investigated a threat to Carbondale schools. Sheriff Chris Wells says on Sunday night, October 13th, about 8:00, they received a report regarding a threat to the Carbondale Attendance Center. He says a thorough investigation, in partnership with Carbondale Police, determined the threat to be unfounded and just a rumor. He emphasizes that there is no ongoing threat to the schools.
To ensure the ongoing safety of the students and staff, Wells says they are increasing officer presence at the schools. There will be ongoing monitoring of visitors and controlled access to school facilities. They have implemented security protocols at all school entrances along with perimeter surveillance, and the school resource officer will maintain active patrols fo the grounds. He says the safety and well being of students and staff are the number one priority. Again, there is no ongoing threat to any of the schools.
