Back in August, people were cheering that grocery prices had finally tapered off and were actually falling slightly; however, the food price index during September did a big bounce back. USDA Economist Megan Switzer says food went up almost half of a percent:

She adds that we shouldn’t make too big of a deal over the increase and expected food prices to level off again in the coming months, but, it’s just too hard to predict. However, the USDA forecast for food prices says they will top last years prices but by only a bit over 1%, the smallest increase in years.
