This is National Fire Safety and Prevention Month and the Ottawa Fire Department wants people to know that practicing fire safety is a year long endeavour. One thing that fire studies have done in the past several years is show firefighters the importance being safe in our bedrooms at night, in case of fire. Former Ottawa Fire Chief Tim Mathias says there is one thing fire departments are now stressing:
He adds that once you leave, try to remember to shut the door, as it does slow down the spread of a fire, so shut as many doors as possible on your way out, but most importantly…get out of the house as quickly as possible and meet in your pre-designated family safe spot, and, once you are out…do not go back in for any reason!
