Miami County Commissioners are mapping out road and bridge projects that would be prioritized if voters renew a quarter-cent sales tax in the November 5th general election. Many local residents learned more about the tax and projects and had their questions answered during a two-hour open house.
Commissioners reviewed a list of nine proposed projects totaling about $13.7 million. One of the proposed projects would install a roundabout at the intersection of 223rd street and Metcalf Road, north of Queen Of The Holy Rosary Church in Wea. The estimated total project cost is $1 million.
Another project would improve Hedge Lane in Paola from the 303rd Street intersection near the schools north to 295th Street. That project cost is $3 million, and it would include resurfacing, curb and gutter, stormwater, and sidewalks.
Another project would install a roundabout at the intersection of 327th Street and Old Kansas City Road near Victory Chevrolet. Total cost estimated cost is $1 million.
The quarter-cent sales tax was first approved by voters nearly 25 years ago, and the five-year tax has been renewed by voters multiple times. We’ll talk about other projected projects on tomorrow’s newscast.
