A man originally charged with 2nd degree murder was sentenced yesterday to a lesser charge. Anthony Alvarado pled guilty to a charge of voluntary manslaughter in the death of 29-year-old Dalton Presley. The two got into a fight at their residence at 11th and Ash back in June of 2022. That fight ended with Alvarado stabbing Presley to death. He had originally sought a self defense plea but after over a year, he decided to plead guilty to the lesser charge. The judge sentenced him to 107 months, or 9 years, in prison for the voluntary manslaughter charge and 43 months for two charges of battery on a law enforcement officer, for a total of 10 years and 7 months. Alvarado must also register as a violent offender for 15 years following his release
At the time of the killing, it was the county’s first murder case in over a decade. Since that time three other homicides have taken place. Those are all still in the court system.
