Say goodbye to a beloved internet sensation. P’Nut the squirrel has been killed. The seven year old gray squirrel, along with Fred the racoon, were seized from their owner in upstate New York over the weekend, after a complaint of wild animals living in a house by the Department of Environmental Conservation, who raided the house late last week. Owner, Mark Longo and his girlfriend, had raised P’Nut since he was little and orphaned when his mother was hit by a car. Longo is upset and says he plans to file legal action:
The animals were euthanized to be tested for rabies after one of the officers said they bit him while he was removing them from the house.
The resilient and adorable P’Nut inspired Longo to move to upstate New Your last year and found “P’Nuts Freedom Farm” an animal sanctuary and rescue operation and became an internet sensation.
