The day has arrived. The peak of the deer rut. Today is the day where, on average, there are more car- deer accidents than any other day in Kansas and they are literally everywhere, even in town. Yesterday, four deer at 17th and Main, another at 17th and Osage, this week, a deer reported at 4th and Oak, 11th and Walnut, 1st and Main, Wilson and Main, North Birch. The list goes on and on. According to Franklin County Sheriff Jeff Richards, it’s doesn’t matter what time of the day it is…
Franklin County has seen 37 reported vehicle deer collisions, so far, in November alone, and we are only half way through the month. September had 30, October, 38, so we are well on our way to a record setting month.
Please be careful and aware today and every day, on every road you travel, in, or out of town. Remember, if you see one deer, there are most likely others in the area.
