Beware of phone scammers in Ottawa. Some utility customers are reporting a bogus phone call from a scammer claiming to be from Evergy who is threatening to shut off service to their home or business due to a late payment. This is a scam. While this scammer isn’t claiming to be from the City of Ottawa, city officials says it is a good opportunity to remind everyone that the City of Ottawa will not call customers regarding late payments. If you receive a phone call claiming to be from the City of Ottawa, asking for immediate payment or threatening to disconnect services, it’s a scam!
