Governor Laura Kelly says she would not send the Kansas National Guard to assist with immigration issues at the southern border. This comes at a time when president-elect Donald Trump has called for mass deportations of illegal immigrants, drawing concerns about the logistics of such a task:
The governor also expressed concerns about the impacts of large-scale deportations on states’ economies.
She points to past issues in which she has declined to send the state’s National Guard to assist in federal matters, like earlier this year when she vetoed a provision to deploy troops to the border in Texas.
