A big family meal coming up for many people this week, your pets will be hanging around looking for scraps or hand outs. But, veterinarians say you may want to think twice before handing table food to pets. From small scraps of turkey to a piece of pumpkin pie, it’s important to know what is safe and not safe for your pets to eat. Vets at k-state says it could cause some major health issues. The fattier foods are the worse, causing vomiting, diarrhea and sometime life threatening conditions.
It’s not only heavily fat concentrated foods that are bad for your pets. Any and all bones are strongly discouraged. Vets say they see a lot of broken teeth. People think they can give a pet a bone to chew on and then they have a vet trip because of a broken tooth. They do say that a small piece of white turkey meat may not cause exceptional harm for animals, but they should stay away from specifically the turkey skin, and any gravy or casserole dishes.
