The city of Ottawa is in discussion about a new ordinance that makes it illegal to camp or store personal belongings in a public right of way, such as parks, industrial or residential area, or infrastructure, such as the levy. While the city views it as aimed an many different situations, Blessing Box Director, Julie Riggins, says she is opposed to much of the ordinance as it targets the homeless:

Commissioners agreed to listen to ideas from Riggins and Franklin County Coalition to end homelessness Director Brett Staneslow to come up with ideas on how to make compromises or adjustments to fit the homeless population. The issue will be discussed at future commission meetings.
