Senator Jerry Moran was in Ottawa yesterday, November 26th, to give a large gift to the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department. Moran says he has a great respect for law enforcement and wants to support them in any way he can. Moran says he is trying to save the government money and not spend more, but an opportunity came up to help Kansas communities and he jumped at it. It’s called Congressional Designated Spending, and he says it became clear to him that if the money was not going to be spent in Kansas, it was going to be spent somewhere else.
The money will be used to purchase a body scanner to put in the jail and a bag scanner for the courthouse, and two metal detectors for the jail for all people. The scanners can detect illegal drugs that may have been put in small baggies and swallowed by someone to make them undetectable. They will be found now.
