The Blessing Box and the Franklin County Coalition to End Homelessness opened their Emergency Cold Shelter for the first time last night, November 28th. The shelter is open on nights where the temperature forecast is below 20 degrees. The shelter opens at 5:00 on those evenings and offers a warm place to stay for those that are unhoused or don’t have access to a warm place to stay. There are plenty of cots and blankets available at the shelter, and there will be a free hot meal for anyone, regardless if they are needing shelter or not. Also, they have partnered with Prairie Paws to shelter animals for those people utilizing the emergency shelter, so they don’t have to leave their animals in the cold.
The shelter is located at the First Baptist Church in the 400 block of Hickory and will be open on nights when the temperature is forecast to drop below 20 degrees. If it will be open, they will announce it at 8:00 that morning. Stay tuned to KOFO, as we will also make the announcement.
