The Franklin County Coalition to End Homelessness, in conjunction with several other organizations, have rallied to provide an emergency shelter from the cold for those who are homeless, or in need of a warm place to stay the night. The shelter is open on night’s where the predicted low is 20 degrees or less. The shelter has been open twice this season and is predicted to be open again tonight, as the low will dip below 20 .

Coalition representative Brett Staneslow says they believe there up to over 50 people in the Ottawa area that are homeless, and most, if not all may be looking to seek shelter from extreme cold this winter. It is the season of giving and there are many needs at the shelter and you can help. The coalition has formed an Amazon Wish List, which can be found on their facebook page and KOFO’s facebook page. The link will take you to Amazon and direct you to what items are needed at the shelter. There is also a link on their page with information on how to volunteer at the shelter.

The shelter is at the First Baptist Church in Ottawa. They will official announce if the it will be open tonight at 8:00 this morning. KOFO will pass the word along as soon as it becomes official.
